Day 14 Northam to Miscouche 23.0 kms

First of all, for those of you following the blog who will be doing the walk in the future, today we did not follow the route as laid out by the Island Walk map. We did for the first 10km and then decided, we would try it a little differently as the route we chose would lead us back to the Confederation Trail. DO NOT GO OUR WAY!! It was a mistake as there was some Hwy 2 walking which was terrible, there was a much nicer breeze on the original route as it was closer to the water, and we apparently missed some pretty nice scenery 😪
If you are following the Island Walk directions for this section instruction #85 takes you down MacDougall road which is not really a road at all, but a grassy patch.

It is a very nice walk and at the end of this path there is a gazebo that was built just for Island Walkers to enjoy. It is still not quite finished yet but was a welcome site to sit for a while and enjoy the morning.

We also toasted the fact that we had just reached the 300km mark of our journey.

And we met Terry (aka “Butch”) the builder of this fantastic resting place. He credits his wife (sorry I did not get her name) for the idea and decorating of the gazebo, and they want all walkers to know they are very welcome to stop and sit a while.

We did also run into a crew clearing brush along the route and we had to detour around them through a farmers field.
The rest of the days walk was fairly uneventful, the weather was warm again and my knee (I am on a long list for a knee replacement) was really acting up so I needed a lot of rest stops today, and I again have to credit my two walking partners for putting up with my excessive whining today. 😬🙄
Now a bit about our accommodations. When planning our trip it was sometimes a bit tricky given that we are a group of three, many B&B’s can accommodate two people but with three, sometimes we were forced to book 2 rooms, many did not even have a cot to add to the room., but we were very happy to have found Aisling Cottage.

And the fabulous screen house that comes with the cottage.

We have been staying here 10 nights as Kyle and Connie who rent the cottage cover way points 4 all the way up to way point 14. This means we only had to take a day pack each day, and Kyle picked us up each morning and drove us to our start point and brought us back each night. He does charge an additional fee for this service, but we found his rate quite reasonable and the cottage being a three bedroom, we were assured 10 nights of blissful, peaceful sleep, and it kept us from killing each other for at least 10 days 🤣 And the price was a lot less than paying for two rooms all those nights. The cottage is well stocked with everything we needed, and we saved quite a bit of money not eating out every night and being able to cook our own meals. I highly recommend this cottage if you have more than 2, and also it was very convenient for the extended stay. We are packing our bags tonight getting ready to move in to our next B&B but we will miss this cosy 10 day home.

We made it to way point 14, and now we need to do our laundry and pack up ready for our long day tomorrow.
I hope you are enjoying the blog and please feel free to post any comments or questions.
